When getting their desired tool, most engineers and construction workers turn to one manufacturer: Bosch. Yes, the manufacturer is well-known for offering reliable and high-quality tools for construction projects.
So, when we found out that Bosch is also offering a laser level, we snagged it right from the engineer supplier shop. And we are sure that you did the same thing when you found out it was available on your local store or online store.
Nonetheless, no matter how great it is, you need to learn how to use Bosch laser level to get the most out of it. Without knowing the proper process, you might find that the laser level is not different than other options. But it actually is! Want to learn how to use it properly? Let us guide you through!
How To Use Bosch Laser Level Properly
The laser level from Bosch is probably the best one out there to check the alignment and shoot grade of a project. That said, you should note that Bosh makes different types of lasers level tools. There are multiple versions. The way each of them works is slightly different.
But among all of them, the ones with the self-leveling system are the most popular. Nonetheless, the basic usage principle is the same; and by referring to these steps, you can use each of them without any issues:
Step 1: Mounting and Setup
Before anything else, you would need to set the device up. As with any other laser level, you need to find a flat surface to set it up. Also, even if you do find the most leveled ground, do not use any other object to set the unit up. Instead, use a tripod.
Now, if you are operating a device with a self-leveling mechanism, ensure to press the ground spikes. That helps the laser to stabilize appropriately on the ground. Turn the unit on after mounting it on the tripod and let it automatically level itself. It should take a minute or so.
On the other hand, if you are using a manual device, make sure to adjust the screws close to the vial until the bubble is stable. Turn it on and aim the beam in the direction you want to work in.
Step 2: Connect the Receiver
Your device should come with a receiver. You need the receiver for using the laser leveler. Usually, the receiver will be unique to that device. So, if you have other receivers lying around, you might not get fruitful results if you try to pair them with this tool.
Nonetheless, many of the Bosch kits will come with receivers with clamps or mounting holes. You can take the help of these clamps or mounting holes for the setup process. But before you do that, you should install the correct batteries on the receiver. Also, do factor in that the receiver would extend to a certain working range.
For example, the REVOLVE900 GRL900-20HVK Exterior 1000ft receiver will extend from 200 feet diameter of the unit’s operating range to 800 feet.
Step 3.1: Calculate the Distance
Now that the setup process is done, you can start working with it. For calculating the distance with the laser leveler, ensure that both the laser and receiver are on.
Then aim the beam in the direction you want to measure the distance. Take the receiver to the location you want to measure the distance of and move the receiver around until it receives the laser beam from the device. That is how you can calculate the distance from a certain point with the Bosch laser level.
Talking of which, some of the models will have additional distance features, such as subtraction, addition, and indirect measurements. Take advantage of those features if you find the use for them. They will enable you to finish the task quickly.
Step 3.2: Laser Leveling
Calculating the distance is not the only purpose of the Bosh laser levelers. These devices are also helpful for laser leveling. First of all, connect the laser level system and calibrate it. Select the point on the ground at the preferred height and connect the receiver to a measuring rod. Place the rod at that point to find out the level.
Find level using the rod. Remember, the bottom of the rod is basically the desired ground height. Also, it would be easy if you could mark the height in some way. And do not just take one reference point. Instead, get multiple reference points. You should stop taking the reference points only when you are confident enough to finish the leveling project with the points you got.
Step 3.3: Elevation Calculation
You can even use the laser level to calculate elevation. For this, you will need the elevation measurements from both the starting and points. Additionally, you should measure the distance between those two points to get an accurate elevation calculation.
Note that the distance traveled is not similar to the run. That said, with the tool, you can determine the changes in the elevation by rise over run or the change in overall vertical distance divided by the change in horizontal distance. The tool will show the calculated measurement in degrees, percentages, or decimals.
Wall Mounting The Bosch Laser Leveler
For particular tasks, mounting the laser level on the wall can make things easy. As we have mentioned earlier, both the laser device and receiver will come with clips or mounting screws for some models. You can use these to mount the devices to the compatible keyhole slots or ceiling trim of the wall.
So, before you carry out a project with the device, we recommend checking the mounting options. The devices with 5/8×11 threads can be mounted in horizontal or vertical positions. For that reason, check the mounting options.
Learning how to use Bosch laser level is as essential as selecting the suitable Bosch device for your project. And we can assure you that if you follow the steps we have gone through, each of the use case scenarios will work out perfectly for you.
